Default Open exhaust mod is doing -

Having this open exhaust setup is doing nothing for performance from what I can tell. In fact on the freeway the car seems a lot more slow when downshifting and accelerating in 3rd. It makes a ton of wind/whistle noise after 3500RPM, I think because of the 3" opening on the end of the glasspack. I know the LS doesn't make much growl after that point, but the whistle/wind noise is something else. Pushing it hard in first gear up to around 40-45mph is awefully noisy especially when there's buildings or tress on the sides of the car to amplify the sound.

Gas mileage is also wayyyy down. Instead of the 17mpg I usually get it's about 15.

Time to go back to stock for the most part. I think I'll do 2 1/4" piping after the center resonator all the way to the rear mufflers. I know my stock mufflers need replacing. Does anyone know of a quiet replacement (similar to stock) without buying directly from toyota for $5000000?

Lee, you are all over the place on this. Open pipes to stock! Why don't you run dual 2.25"s from the center resonator into a pair or Walker Dynomax Superturbos? I bet you would like it. Mellow but strong.

Hey J -

I know. It sounds very erratic and unorganized.

Next week I'll have the $ to do something. Then I'll deicde back to stock or go performance.

If you can find someone parting out an SC,all the mufflers are the straight-thru type.

Lee is a wonderful Lexus LS400 owner. He is making all those mistakes so the new LS owners dont have to do it again. Thanks Lee for the R&D. Now for once listen to JB would you.

Thanks for the input David.

I'll be tossing this setup soon. Yes I am learning, and my pockets became thinner messing around with all this stuff.
