Default Strange noise after installing TOM'S rear lower brace

YES, at 1000-1100 rpm, there is a strange noise / hurrrrrr like a bad exhaust/muffler - but and i feel the noise transmitted to the car - the noise i can hear it only in the cabin - NOTHING outside NOR under the car - maybe the brace is touching the exhaust pipes ? what else ? thx.

i have the stock exhaust and the closed type lower brace

I assume you got it to fit but is the closed type supposed to work with the stock exhaust? Most people get the open type unless you know that your exhaust will clear without any rubbing. I had the open type (and still do) when I had my stock exhaust and I heard no noise at all.

There are only a few exhaust systems that will work with the closed type.

I checked it out with Carson Toyota, they say it will work with the stock exhaust !!!!!!
But why only at 1000-1200 rpm ????

Two threads I originated after installing the closed Tom's brace on my car. Had to remove the resonators on the Tanabe exhaust. The vibration did vary by RPM. Per Neo, there are only a few systems that clear.

Do you have the front Tom's Lower Brace, also? I had some minor clearance issues with that part, too, which resulted in vibration being transmitted into the car.

i would doubt that chris has the closed type for it would be hitting on the reson and would not mount.. i have heard of a few with the open type having just the rear part just touching the exaust , enough to tranmit the vibration.. check your exaust hangers to see if drooping , also make sure engine mounts and tranny mounts are good

THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED - i cut off the front arm of the brace so now i have an open one ( anybody interested in that piece ? lol ) - no more vibrations, no noise...
Again those with stock exhaust - BUY THE OPEN BRACE !

Wow, I would have [and did] go the other direction and modified the exhaust rather than cut the brace. Anyway, glad you solved your problem.

Wow! I guess you did not want to send it back to Carson (considering someone there told you it would work) and get the actual open brace.

hahahaha, this was my first option yesterday - too much hassle ! Black & Decker rulz ! lol !

P.S - A funny thing - the closed brace came with 2 pieces of black insulating rubber to be installed between the brace and the exhaust pipes, but i found them melted today ...

I don't have the closed brace but I find it strange that they would give you a rubber piece that would sit against the exhaust. Those pipes get really hot so I'm not surprised it melted.

My open one came with 1 or two bits of rubber which I don't think got used on the install. No rubbing or noise problems here.
