The stock Nakamichi system speakers are actually pretty good. I replaced the head unit in my '92 and got another OEM speaker. Right now I'm renting a 2014 Dodge Charger and the radio sounds like its playing underwater compared to my LS400.

 

will 5 1/4" speakers fit in place of the stock 4" speakers? I think I saw somewhere that they do fit.

 

i like using the crutchfield website for reference as it will tell you directly if speakers will fit, then i buy elsewhere. be careful as some speakers will "fit" only if you utilize a mount kit.

 

Those speakers should fit with minor cutting with a dremel I believe.

 

I hope so. the 4" speakers available, a lot of people are saying they are lacking in the mids and have nothing for bass. I don't mind them not having any bass as I am installing a 10" JL sub in the rear dash. For now I'm also not going to drop the big bucks for component speakers.
