Default Weak aftermarket speakers

Ok, here's the deal, about a month ago I changed my entire stock sound system. I dropped in 2 12" kickers comp, 2 phoenix gold amps, 2 sets of 4" rear/front diamond audio speakers, and a pioneer head unit.

The subs pump out substantial bass, but, what's lacking is the speakers! I turn up the volume to the max and the speakers are barely audible -- a bit of an exaggeration -- but they don't even compare to the stock nakamichi's! I understand that the more bass you have the less music and vocals you can hear, but, even when I dropped bass settings and sub vol to its lowest, the music is still not THAT loud! I know, I know, sound is subjective, what one person's low is another person's loud, but, comparing the sound intensity of these speakers to the old ones, the old ones blow these away! I know the speakers are hooked up correctly because sound comes out of EACH one, but, I don't understand why they don't go as loud as they should. I can sing much louder than the speakers can!

Anyone have an idea what the problem might be? I tried playing with all the settings trying to make the vocals and music stick out as much as possible while decreasing any bass interference with no success. Please help, a sound system with just bass is simply noise, nothing more .

It may be a speaker impedance problem. If you installed speakers that are substantially different than the Naks, they will have a different response level due to interaction with the crossover, etc. Also check the speaker's rated efficiency.
As Piney said above, check all amp gain controls and adjust if nec. Also double check wiring, esp. if you had an installer do it. Use test signals (off CD) to check levels at different points in the chain.
