Default Strut mount?

I replaced my lower ball joints hoping it would get rid of the crunching sound on the drivers side. Test drove it and after a few miles the sound came back. The ball joints were already bad so I'm not upset about having wasted time or money, but this sound is getting to be a little embarrassing when coming to a red light or parking lots. It is getting to be kinda noisy.

It only makes a crunching type of noise at slow speeds (5MPH or less) when I gently press the brakes and it is only on the drivers side. No sound over pot holes or speed bumps. Everything feels fine when I'm driving. I can feel it through the brake pedal when coming to a stop.
Could this be the strut mount or does it sound like something else?

Could be strut bar bushings, I imagine judging from your symptoms.
A quick confirmation can be done spraying silicon oil to them.

Thanks for that tip on the silicone oil. I will give that a try. Suspension work isn't usually very hard but it can be a pain to track down noises.
