Default Supra TT Springs Vs LS400

Has anyone tried Supra TT Springs on LS400? I have a set in my parts closet.

Fronts should fit, but not sure about the rears.

For SC300/SC400 it provides a nice subtle drop for a cheap price.

JZA80 OEM Spring Rate:

430 lb/in Front
219 lb/in Rear

Tanabe Lowering Spring Rate (Gen1 or Gen2):

352 lb/in Front
168 lb/in Rear

I've never seen it done before. I'm curious to see if it would work since it gives a good drop to the SC.

I'm pretty sure they do not work. Otherwise, I am sure many others would talk about using them in the suspension threads.

I have seen Tanabe's as cheap as $100 on Craigslist. New there just $230 Tanabe's are nice springs. Nearly a 2" drop and maintain comfort.

The older 93 rear shocks have a wide spring perch. The supra TT rear springs have a narrow mount at the bottom. It would appear if you change to 95+ style rear shocks, they Supra springs would bolt on.

I'm just looking to use the Supra TT springs, not Supra shocks.

agree here. aftermarket proper springs can be had for fairly cheap. how low are you looking to go? i would assume these can only lower about 1".

Same mechanics apply. The spring rates will not be appropriate for the LS unless you plan on matching the weight characteristics to that of the Supra. Roughly there will be ~350#'s difference and that will compress the springs far more.

JZA80 springs are stiffer than Tanabe LS400 lowering springs (see first post). So a good set of shocks are in order to go with these JZA80 springs.

presuming they even fit properly, which I doubt.

So it's settled;

Get some new shocks and mount the springs on. Test with lots of photos while installing and post here we'll know.

Think this is an excellent excuse to seclude yourself from wife/girlfriend/significantother for a day.

True

The fronts should be no problem. They fit on SC, GS, Even MK3 Supra. You can see looking at the pictures that they look nearly the same just shorter (but thicker).

The rears are another story. I have to get 95+ rear shocks and hope that the springs won't be so short that it causes a saggy rear lol. If the rear is too short I can add a spacer to the top.

Ive seen a couple of complaints that Tanabes were too soft, so this might be a better option if we can get it right. Plus Supra TT Springs go for about $50 a set, so the price is right.

you realize the LS is very different from ALL the models you just listed, right?

The SC, GS, and mk3 were all made to fit JZ series engines so have somewhat similar base architectures. The LS was designed from the ground up to be totally different and hence it has VERY few interchangeable parts with these cars.

Then there's the weight aspect to consider, that fat iron block JZ motor is going to require much stiffer stock springs in the front vs. the back compared to a 1/3 UZ engine'd car.
