disconnect negative battery cable for an hour

then start with the remote from outside the car and lock and unlock the doors a time or two

make sure you are using original master key

has this car had any aftermarket mods that use electronics, such as:

● add-on security system
● upgraded stereo or amps or subs etc.
● high intensity lighting
● interface for cell phone or ipod-type music devices
● other non-original mods involving wiring? (GPS, navigation, etc)

also, take a voltage reading across battery, both with car off and also at idle and post the voltages measured back here

seems like the immobilizer is not recognizing the key. are you sure you have the original master key?

+1 for the immobilizer.
It seems to me that your car's immobilizer is not functioning well enough. the transponder at the key cylinder or the immobilizer circuit in the ECU might have some problem. Sometimes the electrical connection between them causes the problem.

having a similar issue;

I have a '00 as well. Went to start the car this morning, put key in, all lights and cluster lights came on, went to start and everything went dead; no crank or anything. Took key out, put back in, tilt wheel doesn't move and went to crank and nothing, no lights came on either. Took key out, check harness wiring in my fenders to see if anything new was damaged since relocating them, checked battery and fuses. Went to try starting again, key in, tilt wheel moved, no cluster lights, but the car started up. Radio, CD, Nav, etc all work, just instrument cluster is black and doesn't read anything. ABS light, and Check engine light come on when key is in ON position, but go away when car is started.

The only thing I've noticed is the last few days it's taken me a few clicks of the key remote to lock/unlock the car.

I am confused

^ I had that problem at 1 point but it was because the battery terminal was loose. Tightened it and it fired up

Just saying... maybe its a simple fix to a complicated problem

How did you relocate the harness?

I'll try that after work. I did recently put a new battery in and have been working on my bay a lot. The car made it to work fine. Hopefully a simple fix like that will work before I take it to the shop.

notched the frame rails and ran the wiring on top, and notched the rail again where it plugs into the lights and fuse-box.
