Speedometer gauge stuck..on 98 ls 400
Hey Guys...
My speedometer gauge sometimes stucks , doesn't move at all. Other times it could be fine.
Meaning I could be on a highway and not knowing what speed I'm at .That has been going on for a while and I'm not sure what's wrong and how to solve the problem.
Ur input will be appreciated.

There is a thread on here about the sticky needle. I also have this. Both the tach and speedometer are prone to have these problems. I think the 98 - 2000 models suffer from this mostly. Especially, when the weather warms up and the car has been exposed to a hot climate.
The problem has to do with some kind of substance that gets on the needle stop. It sticks the needle in place. One of the solutions is to pull the cluster out and disassemble it / clean the problem areas. Not an easy procedure but $250.00 less then paying someone else to do it. Long q tip with rubbing alcohol.
Just make sure it is this by hitting the top of the dash when it is stuck. This will usually release it. Just give it a good thunk on top.

PS - if you are on the highway traveling and worrying that you might get a ticket because you are not sure how fast you are going, there is a great and very accurate free speedometer app for Android called SpeedView - it saved my butt many times from the cops until this problem was fixed!
