Default 1998 ls 400 uoa

Hello All,

I recently had this done and thought I'd post the results in the event a member finds it helpful or interesting.

My LS has 110,000 (bought 5 years ago with 81,000 miles) and this sample had 9,000 miles on the oil (SynPower (Full Syn) 5w30). I added about 10 oz. over the 9,000 miles.

I spoke with the technician and he said my numbers are so low that even with a TBN < 1, it is no big deal. My next OCI will be 7,500 miles.

Just a couple of comments:

1) My first sample was lost by the USPS. FedEx cost 3 times as much ($2.50 vs. $6.50), but got there.

2) This is my first sample with alsglobal (done with a WIX Kit purchased at amazon.com) and I will use them again at the 7,500 OCI. They were great and turned the sample around within a couple days of receipt. Being able to speak with the tech was also very helpful.

Thanks for all the help over the years and don't hesitate to ask questions should you have any.

Eddie

P.S. I also made this same post on another Lexus forum.

So, this is the test with 9000 miles on it and you are going to go another 7500 before testing again?

Those are good numbers.

I am not to pleased with mine at a recent 10.5K interval. In past it was fine but the engine has been changing. I just did a drain for analysis at just under 7K but haven't sent it in. From past, 7.5K is a good place for oil change intervals.

Of concern:
Nickel was 9
Copper was 17

The rest danced along the averages back and forth by a few ticks. I use Blackstone Labs.

you are going a bit too long between oil changes, that's why the TBN is low, all of the oil's alkalinity is spent before 9000, and it can no longer neutralize the acids formed in the engine, I would cut that back to 7K between changes

Last time I did an analysis I wnt over my OCI by a couple K, ended up at 10k instead of 8k miles, but the German Castrol (group IV) held up great, though there was higher metal content because of the interval.

I have since switched to Shell Rotella T6 (5w-40 group IV) and am on my 2nd change, will be submitting for UOA @ ~8k.

I use http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ for my UOA, turn around is always really really quick. I think it's like $25/each? less if you pre-pay for a few up front.

No. I changed my oil at 110,000 miles and that sample (with 9,000 miles on it) is reflected in the attached UOA.

I will change my oil again at 117,500 and do another UOA.

The kit (WIX 24077) was $6.50 on amazon.com and shipping was $6.00 for a total of about $13.00. The normal kit price is $20.00.

I bought four kits and the USPS lost one, so my total cost for 3 UOA tests will be $47.

Just a tip for folks who shop on amazon. Add this kit to your cart and click "save for later" while editing your cart. Whenever you log in, visit your cart and watch for a price drop. I may have got lucky with my price, but a kit for under $15 (+ shipping) that includes TBN, is a great deal IMO.
