Default Rear Axle problems

So my rear end started making a ticking sound coming from the left rear end. So i checked the forum and found that i could be the wheel bearing. I did the check of having someone wobble the wheel and look for movement everything seems tight. the only thing i noticed was that the CV boot is torn almost completely off at the Rear diff side. Could the sound also be coming from the rear diff? I don't have the money to just start buying parts so i was hoping someone can give me some other idea's to try. I am going to verify the diff fluid level, but i do not see any signs of leaks and i changed it not that long ago.

If the boot is almost torn off I would put my money on the CV joint.

yeah that axle is bad, just pick up a used/rebuilt one and have a shop swap it in, easy peasy.

Ok so got under the car again today and found that the rear trailing link bushing in the rear carrier is non existent. Also found that the diff has perfectly clean fluid and is topped off. The CV boot is not torn all the way off and i can feel inside and it is still packed with tons of grease. My thoughts would be to replace the bushing's on both the trailing link and parallel link and get a new CV boot. Any thoughts? Could the bushing cause a clicking noise? I always thought i would be more of a clunk like the front end when bushing or ball joints fail. Thanks for the help so far. This forum is great for help, i also love lexls.com for all the tutorials on how to fix the car. She turns 20 this december and has 215K on her and has not let me down yet other then this. Last question can i still drive it until i get my parts or will it damage the car more?

Driving it is not a good idea. I would still replace the axle. The boot being torn has exposed that joint to dirt and road grime which will kill the axle. Just make it part of the bushing repair.

the clicking is the joint in the axle dying. replace it. nothing else in the rear will cause the clicking you're describing.

Thanks for the response do you have to take the entire anxle carrier apart to get it off the car or is there an easier way? If i have to tear the entire rear end apart i will but i was hoping there would be a simplier way. Also an unrelated issues my TSC light has been on for about a year. All of a sudden today it went out after i had the wheel on and off the car twice this weekend, could it be a bad wheel speed sensor.

don't think you have to take the whole thing apart, the axle unbolts from the diff then slides out of the spindle after you undo the big spindle nut.It has been a while though...
