Model: 94 LS400
So i dont assume right now the 6 caps that are needed for 95 and up ordered from nippon, etc would be enough to order until the write up is done? i would like to do the dash and ECU at the same time again thanks for the help everyone.

some of the caps for 90-94 will be the same, and some won't, not certain but I think 90-94 has 7 or 8 caps total in the ECU

since you have to take out the lower glovebox anyway, why not take it out now and open the ECU and post which caps are in there for everyone else to see.

I would not do the dash and the ECU at the same time, unless you have a back up vehicle.

once you have identified the caps, you can throw the ECU back in the car in about 5 minutes and it will be drivable until the caps you order arrive, you will just have to do without the lower glovebox for a few days

To answer your question, I need to know what type of capacitors you use for the dash fix.
For the ECU, only low ESR and 105 ℃ type capacitors should be used otherwise you will be encountering another problem in the future.

Toyota has widely used Nichicon type PF(M) and PR(M) capacitors that contain the infamouse liquid “quaternaty ammonium salt" starting late 80s as far as I know. I don't know the USM of the 93 GS but the possibility is very high. I suggest you to check inside of the ECU and inform us the result please.

There are many other Toyota models that are showing the ECU problems. Things are all written in Japanese but you can at least see model names seeing below.
http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/itakame3/60725107.html

He wrote,"やはりトヨタのECUが多い。でも、トヨタのECUはコンデンサーの液漏れが多いので、判断がしやすい。" In English, "Failed Toyota's ECUs are many. But it is easy to judge since the liquid is leaking from the capaitors."

Japanese caps are best, but the main thing is that the ones you use are LOW ESR type.

as this is a bit of a project, why not use the best caps available? - your ECU is VERY important to the way the car drives, and even the world's best caps are dirt cheap!

also, you see those grayish-white cables flat ribbon cables in your pics? - be CAREFUL with those, they will not tolerate any rough handling and you will create a lot more work for yourself if one becomes partially separated from it's respected mainboard!

you only listed 7 caps

PS - I think the resistors at R783 are likely fine.

i know it was already mentioned here but i do want to emphasize the importance of ESD (electrostatic discharge). you will need to keep that in mind when working with ECUs, or any ESD sensitive electronics.

here is a link for good info:
http://www.minicircuits.com/app/AN40-005.pdf

i highly suggest wearing a grounding wrist strap when working on the ECU while doing this fix. Any static discharge, even ones you cannot physically feel, can potentially damage components on the exposed board. the damage may not be immediate and can surface down the road. just a heads up!
