There is some discussion on edmund's on low battery life for a bunch of LS's. I bought mine used in May this year, and checking through the records at purchase, I found no change in the battery according to Lexus records. I am just wondering if any of you are finding your battery with low shelf life. On edmunds, some are reporting changing their battery every 9 months, others every 15-18 months. These seem to be exceptionally short life span. Any others having same problem ? Is this a commonly known problem with our LS's ?

96 LS400, birthdate July 96. Two batteries since birth, last one in June 2002. VERY hot in Texas and batteries typically don't last long so I was not surprised.

 

93 LS400 - Carquest Battery - 15mo's. Bought one, died in 15mo's, got another for free under warranty.

 

Basically, If you bought the

1-correct size
2-cold cranking amp battary rating for the car
3-climate zone for where you are
4-Have no short circuits or extra electrical gadgets other then factory options then the battary should last a minimum of 3 yrs. Usually there good for 5 yrs or so and some even last 7yrs. All depends on how much you drive, climate, etc.

Pick up the issue of Consumer Reports where the rated the battaries with all kinds of testing.

I am having problems recently with mine.
The CCA on the LEXUS Battery only said 750 CCA ?
I thought it would be much higher ?

 

I vaseline all the "metal to metal" connections on my batter and NEVER see any corrosion. Therefore, I believe this really helps my battery life.

Oh, Yea, I only use Toyota batteries.

When I bought my used '98 LS, the previous owner told me that the battery had started dying a lot. It was 3 years old at that time. Too soon.

 

My original Lexus one lasted 18 month or less. Last battery I bought was 950 CCA from Autozone and is in now 3th year.
No problems.

 

My original 1997 Lexus (Panasonic) battery kicked the bucket in June 2002, so that's about 5 years, not too shabby.

I replaced it with a big *** Interstate that fit perfectly (none of the Sears diehards did).

No problems since.

 

I own a 1998 LS 400 that I have had for 5 years. I just put on my 4th Lexus battery through the local dealership. The service department didn't have an answer why this car goes through the batteries. Other than this, it is still an increadable car. Every year I say I'm going to get the LS 460 but I can't seem to let go of this one.

 

I would definitely go with the battery that has 950 CCA, my owners manual for my 1991 ls400 recommends a 580 CCA or equivalent which seems ridiculously low.

No way. Batteries last a good, long life in our cars.

 

750 is plenty but 850 would be better. Should last at least 4-5 yrs if everything is in good shape.

 

Mine is a 585 cca 24f.

What's the correct size etc?
