Default LS400 problem

Hello I am new here and was wondering if maybe I could find out what to do about my car. I have had my ls for about two years and I love this car. Yesterday when my husband picked up our kids it started stumbling it would almost die and then the rpms would race up. It has done this before and the egr valve was topped up so he cleaned it again. It still done and all the way home. We went over everything under the hood till we couldn't see anymore. We checked all the fuses and sensors. My panel where the codes come up is burnt out. We are at a loss. My husband is great with cars but he is at a loss. Any suggestions? Please help I love this car almost as much as my husband! (Not really, but it is a great car!) Thank you!

What year car do you have? I had a similar experience on my 91 LS and it turned out to be a bad coil.. They're easy to test with an ohmmeter as per the manual.

migh be a good idea to replace the panel so you can get the codes to read out.

It is a 91. It has ran fine all day and now back to the same. It starts hesitating again. You mash the gas and it just won't go. It is like it isn't getting any gas. It seems like in all the service reciepts that I have from the past owner that they couldn't replace that panel. My husband is checking the fuel filter as we speak. I will tell him about the coil.

trunk hinge harness: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/bulbout.html

this sounds like an ignition issue though, check coils/spark plug wires, and get the cluster bulb replaced so you can see what trouble codes you have.

mine ended up being the cam sensor wires touching the acc. main belt. might also want to check that. but as drifter said getting the codes will help point in the right direction.
