The differential mounting cushions are worn out.

 

I just took a photo of my Celsior's mounting. Look at the 2 circles. They are still well aligned and the inner one is located a bit backward (towards trunk). This is the way it should be located. The more the mount wears the higher the center is lifted. Also the engine mounts and others are worn, the location of the inner circle is pushed forward or backward depending on the worn situations.

 

thanks guys are there any upgraded solution to the diff mounting cushion? or should i just look for oe replacement from lexus?

 

Agreed, look at the fourth pic you posted. I notice you lifting the car by the rear diff also, this really helps shows where the bushings have seperated.

 

would lifting the rear end from the diff speed up the mounting cushion wear?

 

after closer inspection all 3 rear differential mounts are bad.
the 2 cross member ones are cracked and the front mounts are all cracked and deteriorated.
I've ordered replaced today and will report back as soon as i get all the mounts replaced and go for a test drive

 

Its not good for them, especially as they get older.

 

what's an alternate way to lift the rear end w/o using the diff as a jack point?

 

given the carrier is a jack point as listed in the manual and you generally don't LEAVE it in the area supported instead of using jackstands, jacking up from the carrier is likely fine in the long run.

 

Where are you getting the work done? How much $ ?

follow up.
I replaced the 3 differential bushing Upper and two subframe mounts which all required to be pressed out.
the subframe bushing was able to get it out using harborfreight bearing press.
the bushing on the top of the differential i was able to get sent out to get pressed out. (big thanks to DB autocare / racetoy) only cost me $20

results: there is no more driveline shock or hesitation when the car comes to a stop.
the old bushing were basically all rotted and inside rubber was all rotted away from the mounts which cause the entire differential to rattle.

 

I am pretty sure I have actual differential whine. Would I benefit from changing these 3 bushings?
