Default Needle lights - How difficult is it to fix??????

I wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and how did they go about getting it fixed. Last weekend I noticed that the tip of my speedometer needle started flickering. Then the other day it didn’t come on at all. It’s not the entire needle, just the tip.

I wanted to know if this is a simple bulb switch and how difficult would it be to replace? Or if this is a sign my cluster is starting to go? I haven’t had any problems with the cluster other than the occasional speedometer sticking for a while.

Thanks for the help.

As they get old, the MPH and RPM needles start to stick. All of the needles will start to go dim also.

I can help with both issues if you send your cluster in.

i got a general idea after looking thru your web page. prices are pretty reasonable. What is the turn around time usually? Do you replace all bulbs or just the ones that are not working?

can you quote me a price for the sticking tack needle? faded bulb? and replacement for the climate contol lcd screen?

Sure, PM me your email address and I'll get an estimate to you. I repair same day I receive and it will go out the next morning or following day usually. The cluster goes out UPS ground for the basic shipping cost.

If your LS is an early model ('90 thru '94) then the needle issue is due to the conductive paint peeling off the needle; the needle is a fluoroscent tube and has not replaceable bulbs. Once the paint starts splitting and coming apart, the circuit becomes sporadic. In other forums users have successfully used the same stuff used to repair the defroster wiring in the rear windows.

Hmm.. I will give that a shot since I tink I need to re-aline the needles anyway.

Thanks for the tip (no pun intended). Do you happen to have the link to the thread?

Their ebay store has same service charge for less. May want to consider that option. I had my 1992 cluster done by another company a couple years ago. Sent it off took about a week to get back mainly shipping time. Drove the car a few times without gauges. Has worked perfect so far. That cost was $66.

I think it's in the huge gauge cluster thread. I used superglue to put the black lining back on, then filled in the gap with a conductive pen, sharpied that black after it dried, worked like a charm.
