Default Removing glass...finding 3rd drain plug??

HOw do I remove just the glass on the outside rear view mirrors? I just want to remove that 6"x5" piece of glass. I don't want to remove the entire piece. Just the panel of glass.

The 3rd drain plug part is towards the end of the thread.

What I'm trying to do is get into the inside of the mirror housing so I can tighten it. There are 2 screws behind the glass that I need to get a screwdriver on.

Fantomd,

That is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really is that easy, right? Did you pry up on the inner or outer corner or just from the middle of the bottom of the mirror?

I'll be doing this on Monday.

Do you happen to know where the coolant drain plug is on the upper part of the engine? I know where the drain plug is on the lower part of the engine and I know where the plug is on thr radiator. I just can't find the one near the filler cap under the plastic "shroud." Can you please help?

Gebo I would use the rag method, If you pry the mirror off , do it from the center, but be very careful not to damage the mirror housing.

Here is a pix from the manual In regards to the drain *****, It looks like there are (3) of them? Good Luck let me know how it turns out.

Fantomd,

Oh, yeah. I'm gonna use the rag technique. I didn't know where you applied the pressure. Now I see to apply in the bottom center.

Would you mind picturing the rest of the coolant change info? That last bit of info on the last page concerning the A/C being on, max temp stuff, etc got my attention.

Have you heard anything about the Lexus Repair Manuals on e-bay that are on CD? They go for about $24-$30. Are they rip-offs?

Thank you for your help!

Here is page 2 of the coolant change, good luck.

Yes I got my manuals from ebay, paid 65 for both in excellent condition, I have used them and it was well worth the 65 bucks. If you follow the manual and get the special tool that htey mention you can do most repairs yourself. The dealers make it sound like thaey are doing brain sugery. I have not used the cds, if you get one please let me know if they are any good. I would stay away from the chilton and the hayes books. They leave a lot of steps out and dont have pixs of most of their repairs.

Good Luck with your LS

It was a little scary getting to side mirrors off and on, but it happened just like you said it would. Thanks.

Thanks fantomd, for the info you gave us , I never knew there was a drain **** on the side of the engine. The last time I changed my coolant I took the thermo out and ran water through the engine until it came clear (very messy), but I'll try the method described in the book the next time.

I have searched and searched, even with Fanatomd's pictures, but I still can't find the drain **** at the "TOP" of the engine. Can anybody help me? I'm starting to feel, well, sort of, stupid.

The drain **** is on the driver's side of the engine not the top. The nut that's on top is the filler plug where you add the coolant. Look at the pics that fantomd posted in this thread, it gives you instructions on how to drain and refill the coolant.

If you look at Fantomd's post on 11/10/02 at 00:38 you'll see 3 drain ***** pictured. One is on the bottom of the radiator, one is on the driver's side of the engine block, and the other is near the top of the engine ( it appears to be to the right of the filler plug towards the driver's side). I cannot find the one at the top of the engine near the filler plug. HHEELLPP!!!
