Purchase Advice???
Im looking at a 96 LS400 with 120,000 miles on it. Its also a one owner with all the records for it. Timeing belt and everything has been changedand It drives very very well. The problem that it has is when you shift it into drive when its cold it takes a while for it to shift into gear. Im not sure if the trans is shoot or what but after it heats up it runs smooth as silk. Hes only askink 3500 for the car and I just wanted you guys feedback if possible. Thanks in advance.
I have a '92 LS400 that does the same thing. I read in an earlier post that this is normal on these cars. After the trans warms up, its good to go for the reat of the day. That is also a good price on the car, especially with all the maint records up to date,
I would not be afraid of it unless you find the fluid to be dark brown and smelly. Try an fluid flush and clean the filter screen. Aisin transmissions of that vintage are not the smoothest operating devices on the planet when cold. Worst case, you are looking a installing a used ATX sometime in the future. Maybe he will come down to $3K if you point out the problem.
