Default Climate Control LCD replacement question

I know that replacing a burned out LCD for the A/C climate control head has been discussed on here plenty, and that the more adventurous do-it-yourselfers have soldered in a new LCD from ebay, this was even featured on an episode of the British show Wheeler/Dealers

my problem is, all of the replacement LCD's I can find on ebay or elsewhere online only fit up through like 94

where can I find the correct replacement LCD, suitable for soldering in, that will fit my '96 LS?

no, you didn't read it very closely - they only carry LCD's for 93-94 LEXUS LS400 and NOT 96

your money......

if it actually was for the years listed, it would extend 95-97, as there was no change '96-97.

anybody find a replacement LCD yet? I don't want to buy a used one if its just gonna go bad again! I wonder if UV rays damage it at all. My 95's was perfect for 15 years, then it moved from Maine to GA, and within a year my LCD started to go bad. Same with the stereo.

Time to buy a toyota yaris....

95+ LS LCD is not available.

Best bet is to find a used one in a junkyard that has a good screen.

I would not be surprised if UV accelerates the failure. I bought my '91 from my SoCal in-laws who garaged it for its whole life (original owners), with tinted windows and no sunroof. The LCD was not perfect when I got it, but close to it. Within a year of parking it outside here in NorCal (bay area), the LCD steadily worsened until it was not really readable.

I ended up buying a new one on ebay for $45 and soldering it in myself. Works great.

So I am a believer in the UV accelerating the failure. I thought so before you mentioned your case as well. And I would think the same thing you are regarding a used one - it would fail quickly due to age + UV.

No problems with my stereo though.

Junkyard doesn't work for known problem areas in cars due to the phenomenon called pattern failure - in other words, all of the junkyard LCD's will have the same issue mine has!

the junkyard is great when your little nephew breaks something in an LS400 that normally never breaks, but not in a case like this, where they all break due to a design defect!

Yes!

Also, and importantly, those new replacement LCD screens that you have to solder in for 90-94 are made differently from the original parts, addressing the design defect. They won't fail due to age + UV like the originals did.
