Default Which strut bushing causes vibration?

I wouldn't be asking this as I would have normally just replaced all the strut bushings, but since i'm on a very low budget right now... I just decided to ask.

Which bushing is everyone talking about in all the threads that cause vibration?

Story:

When I bought the car, it had a vibration at high speed, braking and needed a new wheel bearing.

I got the tires re-balanced and rotated, which fixed the high speed vibes. Replaced the wheel bearing and the front rotors/pads the other day and went for a test drive and to break the pads in. Braking vibes were still there, feels warped again and gets worse as rotors warm up. Lastly, it sounds like the SKF bearing I put in there is defective as its making a grinding noise, feels like tires are off balance again, must be the wheel bearing, very slight vibrations felt in steering wheel at 45+mph.

Pretty stressed out about this whole ordeal as i'm trying to save up for air suspension, don't want anything wrong with the other suspension parts before I throw the car on air.

Going to replace the inner and outer tie rods, got a new set that came with the car. Hoping that might fix it...

clunking over immediate bumps? if not then it's probably not the strut ROD bushings.

aka the "caster arm" bushings.


sounds like you really need to get your wheel bearing situation first. while doing that, check the upper and lower ball joints for play.

Left, wheel moves up and down and side to side, tie rod and wheel bearing. Every once in a while, i'll hear is a clunk too, forgot to address that. Almost sounds like it's coming from the middle/right side (Right), sounds like a subframe bolt is loose or something.

this probably has nothing to do with your car, but I read it on here..... there is only one crossmember under the engine/tranny assy. make sure the bolts are good and tight..... it fixed a noise on the poster's LS.

I did, otherwise this thread wouldn't be around. Some people mentioned strut rod bushing, some mentioned the lower strut bushing, others mentioned the top strut mount... Most people say "Strut Bushing"... Pretty vague.

there's no such thing as a "lower strut bushing" unless you're talking about the SHOCK bushing, which isn't replaceable. strut MOUNT is not a bushing either, you would have to replace the whole mount.

use the term "strut rod bushing" without the quotes

Thanks, cleared it up a whole ton billydpowe.

Just ordered them, $85 and some change off Sewell.... The clunks I hear are driving me nuts, sounds like something is loose and is going to fall off.

NOTE: before you tighten the SRB bolt: lift (jack up)spindle with jack until weight of car is off jack stand and tighten strut rod bushing at this point, NOT with wheel hanging in mid air, or you might tear the new bushing the first time you hit a dip (down and up bounce)..
