Question Rear CV boot/ survey

Any body had their Rear CV boots replaced? How much did it cost?

By the way, how long do U plan to keep your LS? , until 500,000 miles or ?

It is not very much of a job.Buy the books and do it yourself.Allso a suggestion.Every few months spray the boots with silicone spray. They will last allmost forever.Carpe diem

I just bought all 4 new OEM CV boots for the rear axles, and plan on doing the work myself. I am wondering about getting the axle out without any special tools, and if there is any problem with taking the cv joint apart, re-grease and install the new boots.

There is no need to take the joints apart. You can degrease & regrease after removing the boots. But if you find the need to take the joints apart, you MUST find a way to label the parts such that you can reassemble the parts in the same locations and orientations as before the disassembly, otherwise, the parts won't fit or not fit smoothly.

Ok, I thought the repair manual mentioned taking the inside joint apart to get the outside boot to slide off.

I guess I will just go slow after getting axle clear of the car, and see how it goes. I won't take anything apart that is not necessary.

The shop manual is very good at showing how to take things apart, but it does a terrible job of telling you what steps you can skip. You'll see which items need to be removed once you're at it.
