weird noise stalling out
Help with my problems guys I do enough reading trying to figure it out on my own.
My car drives nice idles smooth although my idle is reading like 200 rpm with the air off a little higher with the air on. I think my rpm gauge doesnt read correctly.
I have replaced both coils tps and a used iacv
first I get a boom noise sounds like I have 2 12s in my trunk.
it does it mostly at lower speed or when i have my brake pedal pressed at a stop light etc
I drove my car to work Friday and it drove great to work 83 miles.
drove great home doing 80mph with the air.it had one hiccup or miss along the way...but otherwise drove great.
now when i got off the highway and was coming to a stop.. the gas pedal became un responsive and it died on me...I restarted it and it wanted to do it again....I gave it alot of gas and it worked for a sec...it did this a few more times on the way only when i went to slow down for a stop light or turn....
I pulled over turned it off...restarted it and it drove fine and today it is driving fine

I doubt it has anything to do with your exhaust system. It sounds to me like you have an intermittently failing part. The trick is to find out what's failing, and why...

yea Im leaning toward the fuel pump or torque converter.
When im driving along and take my foot of the gas it feels almost like the brakes kick in sometimes think it has to do with the torque converter
thanks for the reply

well now im leaning towards my maf....
when testing the resistance of my maf at room temperature
the reading starts off in range of what my manual states..but slowly drops below the recommended reading. is this normal for the reading to drop?

I don't think your AFM will cause this problem or it would be running bad all the time. My AFM is bad and when I did check it with an Ohm meter it stayed at one reading, didn't drop at all just stayed at the bad reading. Is the boom noise a backfire like it might have an ignition problem? I do think it's some kind of sensor problem b/c it triggers when you realease the gas peddle, so the computor isn't getting a correct signal. Dumb question but did you try to pull codes, even if the engine light isn't on?

hey thanks for the help Dean..
I am not sure what the boom sound is i have checked for codes and both lights just blink.
I know one of my problems is I can not get my Idle set right. I have it set at like 200 rpm when in drive and it gets a little bit more with the a/c on.
when i put it in park it goes to about 400... if I bump my tps up a little.then it idles to high in park..the car sounds good at idle and doesnt sound like it is missing.
I unplugged my mass sensor and it idles better....but once you give it some gas it choked .. I plugged it back in then the car started stalling rpms up and down.
I need to re set the computer... but I did order a used mass off ebay with 7 day warranty

I am thinking the boom noise may have something to do with maybe fuel related.
I know the hole engine bay is awfully hot i cant even touch the plastic pieces..but my temp gauge stay in the middle and the car is smelling gassy lately

I reset the computer and it is back to running good...
I will install the new maf and see if it improves anything.
I wont know if it stalls out on me until i drive it on the interstate ..
I was reading about having high rpms in Park then them dropping alot in gear
and 2 different post said something about the temperature sensor So i will replace that this weekend

So after resetting the computor it's fixed, or is it the same as it was? Try the things you said and you can also try cleaning the IACV, if it's dirty it will mess with the idle pretty bad.

its the same as it was it runs great it will even spin the tires. but if i run it forawhile it sometimes stalls out..
I have replaced both coils.. replaced the iacv with a nice used one...... because i took mine apart to clean it and then it did not work right after. made my rpms drop when turning the air on..
the used iacv i just cleaned the tip. seems to be working good.
the tps is brand new toyota.
I will post when i get the new maf put on
