Default Brake Shimmy

Our '94 ls400 is now shaking/shimmying when we apply the brakes. No problems during normal driving.

Any thoughts as to what the problem may be? Rotors, calipers?

Thanks

Durec,

It sounds like perennial warped rotor shimmy to me. Have the rotors resurfaced or replaced the next time that you get your LS400's brakes done

Also, could you be a lamb and tell me where you get your brake job performed and how much you payed? I'm fixing a few things on my grandfather's LS400 and rotors are next on the docket. Thus far the cheapest price for anti-skid control front rotors is $18 at lexuspartsnow.com but I'm always searching for a cheaper deal

I've heard of more ball joints causing a shimmy then the rotors. I'd check those first, along with any other suspension parts. (tierods) If the rotors were warped it would be more of a shake, not a shimmy. When you feel something when braking, doesn't always mean it's brake related.
techtalk: $18 is pretty cheap for a rotor, I don't think you're gonna find anything cheaper. But, the brakes aren't something you want to skimp on quality just to save a few bucks. Get the good stuff, I'm sure your grandfather would spend more to feel safer.
