Default Timing Belt

Okay I Need help, I have Left and Right Cam Lines lined up and the crankshaft on 0 but when I go to put on the BELT TENSIONER And let loose the left cam stays lined up but the right Cam moves a tooth to the left. how do I keep it from moving? Should I turn the crank shaft tell everything moves one step ahead so when i go to pull the BELT TENSIONER it pops back in to the right place?

If the right cam is the one that's moving, index it so that when it jumps a tooth to the left, it's jumping ONTO the tooth that you want it to be on.

Hard to explain, but easy to see...

Is there a video or photo to show me how to do this? if so it would be really easy for me But then again how would I do that without turning the crankshaft and left Cam out of place,.

Kelley, what year LS do you own? The left cam is the drivers side and right cam is the passenger. The belt really should not be "jumping" when you pull the pin on the tensioner unless its not really the right type of belt. Are you using a Toyota OEM belt or other?

Here is a tutorial on a 98 LS400 that I did last fall. Read it carefully. Maybe it will help -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/landar/...7622886015670/

I own a 1992 Lexus LS400 and tonight I redid timing to the right firing order and now it still won't start, I get gas, spark from both coils, the spark Is yellow and blue looking. What can I be doing wrong?

hmmm..I seem to recall someone else having a problem after doing the T-belt and it turned out to be with the distributor rotors. Can you get the rotors on 180 degrees out? Make sure that the rotor is pointing to cylinder #1 when TDC. And you do have spark right at the plugs, right? All wires back on in the proper firing order?
Check all of these things carefully. I can only imagine that you are really frustrated at the moment (I would be) so it is important to step back and go down a list of possible issues. You will find it if you are thorough in your search. Best wishes.

Did you see my response to the crankshaft pulley puller thread? Are you absolutely sure you had the crankshaft at TDC when the belt was intalled?

Yes I'm 100% 100% but maybe I should take it all off and redo everything? I'm really mad right now because I'm sure I had the timing right , both lines on cams and crank at 0

Well, if you are 100% sure on the timing, then start with the fuel. It takes basically 3 ingredients to get the engine running... fuel, spark and timing. You could try spraying some starter fluid into the air cleaner inlet to see if it would try to start. Perhaps you now have a fuel delivery problem for some reason.

From the video you posted, it seems to me that the engine timing is still off. I say that because I hear the engine 'buck' against the starter at certain times. Then again, its hard to tell from a video. Do you have a timing light that you can hook to cylinder #1 and verify that spark occurs at approx. TDC?

Yep sounds to me like timing is off in the video. Should only take you an hour and a half to get the fan, and covers off to inspect. Good Luck, I know it can be frustrating
