Default One tooth

Lots of posts on timing belt - but I can’t locate specific discussion on timing belt skipping one tooth during installation. Can one someone point me to a link or explain this?
I’m guessing it has something to do with keeping proper tension on the belt during installation?

TIA

I may be wrong on this but its my understanding that the timing is controlled by lining up the timing marks of the gears I don't think the belt has anything to do with it unless the belt moved a gear and changed the timing marks. Don't know how that happens just my 2 cents

i have done a few in my day and did my 2002...even have a thread about it.

It can happen to an older car when the tensioner leaks. It could also happen if a belt stretched but I would think it would snap.

attention to detail will avoid installing the belt one tooth off.
check the marks, check them again, then check it a third time.
pull the pin on the tensioner and check the marks again.

thats how I do it...

There must be a procedure or shop manual to replace the TB. Just follow it to the letter.

there is a procedure in the SC430 service manual and I used it as a reference...most of the work is straightforward...very time consuming.

very satisfying when you take her for that first drive and all is good!
