Default 2000 ls factory subwoofer

has anyone replaced their factory sub with a better after market one? i was told that there is a firewall behind the back seat which makes it difficult to get bass into the car. i was also told that the sub is in the back dash in front of the third brake light. i just want a little more kick from the stock system. any info would be helpful, thanks.

There is some discussion about replacing the OEM sub in the following audio setup thread (there's a link to it in the sticky at the top of the LS400 forum): https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...up-thread.html

It's not just a "firewall" behind the backseat -- the gas tank is between the rear seat back and the trunk. The rear package shelf can be removed after removing the rear seat back.

I assume you have the standard Pioneer system. From listening to both, I've come to the conclusion that the main difference between the 195 watt Pioneer and the 280 watt Nakamichi is the amount of base -- I can feel the base vibrations from the Nakamichi in my 00 LS through the seat and steering wheel and it can get painful if the base control is over about two thirds.
