1995 LS400 (thinking of buying, help)
Hi everyone,
I've seen a 1995 LS400 with 84K mi. at the dealer down the street. Not sure what he's asking for it yet but thought I'd look for a bit of feedback before going any further.
I've not had the chance to own a Lexus yet but hoping to change that this week.
Any thouights or advice would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.
-Dave
PS: I'm also looking at a 1996 SC400 (63K mi) @$21,500 and a 1998 ES300 (45K) @$21,000 if you have any advice on those.
P.P.S. Just looking for 1 Lexus (not all 3) and can't deceide on best one.

The LS 400 and SC 400 would be the best choice cause of the V-8 engine. The life time on these cars will last forever as long as the car has been taken care off.Ive seen Lexus car with over 300,000 miles and higher on them. So these cars are tough.Id prefer the LS myself.

The 95 was the start of the model change, basically this is Mark II. Great car, should be the same as the 96 which I used to own. Very fast, light and comfortable cruiser. I said light because it actually weighs less than my wife's RX300. It weighs less than the 90-94 but has 10 more HP and more torque. Good on gas also. I get 22 mpg average highway and city driving.
The only downside is you cannot easily upgrade the wheels. It's HUGE brakes in front limit the available selection for you. If I were able to fit a 17" GS400 wheels on it, I might still be driving the LS. I just thought that the OEM wheels are ultra conservative in design.
Get the one with the Nakamichi.

Having driven both the '95 generation LS400 and '98 generation ES, I would recommend the LS, especially since the vehicles you're looking at are probably both about the same price. I found the LS to be in another league from the ES. Reasons:
1) Ride quality and quietude are better in the LS. In the ES they are very good, but the LS is astoundingly serene and smooth.
2) V8 in LS has MUCH more power.
3) Like most cars, ES is tight for 3 passengers in back. I can comfortably put an adult and two kid-seats in back of my LS.
I have never driven an SC, so can't comment there.
Hey, you can't go wrong on this one...
PS: I would second the earlier comment about getting the Nakamichi if you can.
