Engine Noise Ls400
Hi,
Guys This is my first post in this forum I have an issue and I hope you guys can help me to start with.
The problem is that my car is having a lot of engine noise I m using synthetic engine oil and also every thing seems ok only noise I don't know what causing it. Power, acceleration is good no issues with that. Is it exaust but if it is exhaust it should throw some error code. By the way model is 2000 ls400.
Thanks.

Could you explain what kind of noise it is? Because all engines make noises. Is it a ticking sound, clonking sound, clattery sound, or what? Short of actually hearing and seeing the motor, it's hard for us to diagnose a problem called "engine noise". I suggest getting a sound bite of your motor or video clip.

actually it's not clunking noise or other it is just that the engine is loud not smooth and also sitting inside the car I can hear engine running as in lexus it should be quite. I will try to upload some audio so you have an good idea. I mean to say it is not like lexus like any other corolla or camry noise. As I heard that lexus is very quite but in my case it is not. but running is very good pulls like a beast. How can I make engine smooth as silk.

It could be your exhaust system, which should be easy to check. As the engine is running good, there is probably nothing wrong with the engine itself. (If anything would be wrong, you would probably get some kind of error lights.)
By the way, did you buy the car recently? That is, have the engine always been loud to you or have this started recently?
When driving the car in normal speeds, the engine should not be heard at all. (If you accelerate hard, to 3-4000 rpm or above, of course there is engine sound, but not very loud.) Cruising at 50-60mph (80-100 km/h) should be very smooth, with maybe some little sound from the wheels (road sound), but nothing from the engine.

thanks edtbjon
Yes I buy this car 3 months before and I only came to know that it's loud when I sit another lexus so it was like this when I bought it. Any ways I will check the exhaust system any thing else?

Well, you can also check that the air intake plus the air filter is all intact. But I don't think that it should make too much noice unless it's all gone. Also, it should be alright after the "air mass meter", otherwise the engine would run quite badly.
As you've noticed in the other Lexus car, all Lexus's are quiet rides, but the LS400 is one of the most quiet cars there is. Sometimes I find myself turning my stereo system off just to enjoy the silent ride. At cruising speeds up to 90mph (150km/h) on highways, I don't notice any engine noice and I can have a conversation with any passenger both beside me and behind me without feeling that I raise my normal voice at all.
So, you have to get an assistant to help you check the car. See to that you can lift the car and look/listen to it from under the car.
