Why is my '96 LS shifting so early?
I'm just now sorting out the issues with this car. Short of the long of it is I couldn't get rid of a P0115 and high idle, rich running, impossible hot start problems which were due to a bad ECM. New ECM and problems are gone and it runs like a champ. With both ECM's I have come across a weird issue.
The car seems to shift alot earlier than it used to. By shifting early it's staying out of the powerband and is pretty sluggish. Without pushing the gas down pretty far it won't go over 2k rpm before shifting. Seems like it shifts as soon as it can. If you near floor it the revs will go up more. I have an intermittent P0510 every once in a while now which is the closed throttle position switch malfunction. The solution, I think, is to replace the TPS. Why do yall think my car is shifting so early? Could a dying TPS cause the kickdown to happen further down the pedal travel? Thanks!

This may not help at all, but don't the cars have an adaptive transmission?
I remember reading somewhere that unplugging the ECU for a while and plugging it back in, then driving it around for a week mashing the throttle all the time, will make the tranny shift at a higher RPM because it's learned of the new "aggressive" driving style.
I could be entirely wrong...usually not too up on the technobabble. Just my $0.02.

Hope this helps!
Hey Banshee one thing that wasn't said was what setting do you have the tranny on, normal or ect? This may or may not have something to do with it. This is a tutorial that mugen was referring to https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ram-power.html . On post 7 it tells you about the tranny reprogram.

This is in normal mode. ECT doesn't seem to be much different. I'll try the tranny reprogramming thing and see if that helps. Slowly getting this car reliable again. The new ECM made all the difference in the world.
