Default My Recent Flare Issues...

Well, I'm having two issues that I figured I would vent about here. The first is an RPM spike that I am experiencing after a cold start. It only happens once right after the car is started, it is a slight spike when the car is shifting between third and fourth gears. There is no acceleration, just an RPM spike.
The second, which I am much more concerned about, is an acceleration spike. This usually happens when I am in stop and go traffic, the car actually jumps a bit. I haven't pinned it down but it seem to happen in first or second gear when after i have braked to slow down I then step on the gas and the car jumps foward, almost in the same fashion as if you were to be slightly rear-ended by another car.
The RPM spike almost always happens, and the acceleration spike happens periodically and when it does it will happen two or three times per commute.
I know many of you have issues, so please let me know if these are similar to yours.

Jeff, I know exactly how you feel because I have experience this on my ES. I don't have the cold start problem, but I do have the RPM spike going stop and go traffic. This started happening ever since I got the car and I went to 2 dealerships and work with Lexus Corp and all of them told me it is the "personality" of the car. I have since gave up go back to the dealerships since they can't duplicate the problem. The funny thing is that I kind of gotten use to it. Ever since I got my first oil change, it doesn't seem to happen that much anymore. Not sure if I change my driving style. Also try this, when you are in stop and go traffic, switch it to Sportshift mode and leave it on 4th gear and see if the "spiking" stops.

A 'personality' of the car to lurch forward? You have to be kidding me? Am I reading this correctly??

Yes, I have lived with an occassional 3 - 4 shift flare while waiting for a real fix. Still waiting...while my flares continue to diminish...thank goodness. But I have never experienced this lurch thing. Sure hope I never do.

Interesting to see other customers being told their issues are normal characteristics of the car. It is not just me.

Some on this forum who have no issues with their car think I am Mr. Negative. But, they are now seeing other customers going through the same thing.

POOR SERVICE!! They throw the keys back at you and tell you it is normal. Geez, that makes me so angry!!

I know Lexus claims they have great service, but it seems calling things "normal" is standard protocol throughout the auto industry. You want bad service, you should check out some BMW dealers.

Never owned a BMW, but have had better service with my Honda and Acura vehicles. Then again, they never broke.

How? Were you bored to tears?

Funny how I said mine were continuing to diminish...not! Can't believe I didn't get the reflash sooner.

I've been out of touch with the forum here for a long time so I'm not familiar with the flash you mentioned.
Is it for the 'flare issue'?

I just had my car serviced and they uploaded the gas/brake pedal fix into the car's computer. When they do that is it a one issue specific upload, or does it include all previous fixes such as the 'flare issue' etc.?

I'm curious. Have you asked your dealer to do a transmission flare upgrade? Do you know if your car was ever serviced for the same? All Lexus dealers are not created equal. Didn't know cars had personalities....I wouldn't accept that. This was a known problem on earlier ES 07 builds...(w/06 builds). Don't buy it, I would insist that they do the upgrade, even if they can't duplicated the problem, because they know the problem exists. Good Luck!!
