my 1998 ls400 leaks water whenever it rains or i wash!!!! the leaking is coming in from where the seal goes vertical in between the inner and outer taillight on right side!
the car has never been in any accident!! any idea!
if I need to replace the seal, where can I get it!!
I pulled of the seal, cleaned the buildup off the metal and out of the seal (big pain) put it back on with silicone sealant.
STILL LEAKED!!
Different place. Top of trunk near window. Water pooling under heavy rain or carwash put water over the edge.
I pulled the seal up somewhat so that the lid would close tighter against seal and seems ok. Probably a new seal is best but would also make certain the seal is getting good compression which means it probably doesnt need to be tightly pushed into place. A small gap from tightly installed may be best or maybe just an new seal sits taller?
I mentioned a fix in another thread but not sure where.
You need to fix the seal by cutting it in the corners and feeding round weatherstrip tubing . Spray tons of silicone spray first and it will slide through .
3/8 th diameter works perfectly to fill it but takes longer . Slightly smaller will be quicker and do a similar job.
It is teh same foam tubing used to fill cracks around windows.
I'll make a clearer thread about it later.
I have been searching and can't find your post about this fix. Can you link it?
I have been getting this leak in my trunk for a while now and it's time to put an end to it. Please let me know the proper fix.
My weather stripping seams to be in great shape, no tears or anything. I made sure there was no gunk or build up in the drainage channel. Thing still is leaking.
Seems like based on the above posts i need to build the weather striping up higher? This will cause a tighter seal against the trunk?
thought i would follow this thread up with my experience....
I went and purchased some weather strip that comes in a roll. It is foam with an adhesive backing. I cleaned up the trunk lid with cleaner and applied this weather strip along a line that was visible where the trunk lid meets the rubber weather stripping on the trunk. So basically i had double sealing..... OEM lexus rubber seal on the trunk and then the foam weather stripping on the lid that i added.
So far it's been about two months and we have had some heavy rains. No wet carpet at all.
Same issue here. Any videos on replacement of weatberstripping

I am ready to purchase and replace the weather stripping on the trunk of my LS400. Any videos on how to take out the trim for removing the stripping?
I had this problem recently, replaced weather stripping and it didn't fix the problem, was a waste of money to do that. They redid some other seal in the trunk. Take it to a trustworthy body shop to troubleshoot...

Where trunk opening bends at 90 degree angle, there is a plastic corner piece held in place with
two (1995-2000) or three (1990-1994) through hole clips with rubber seals.
If degraded, then water can ingress.
Same with through hole grommets that affix rear corner combination lamps to quarter panel.
