1997 LS 400 - Dome and floor lights won't shut off
I've got an LS 400 - just had some work done:
Drive Belts
Tensioners
Water pump, etc.
Weld on exhaust leak
Got car back - runs nice - but radio completely dead.
Also - open door light on dash will not shut off. Was ok for a while - but now, dome light and floor lights will not shut off. Alarm will not set - just gives continuous beep tone (cause car thinks a door is open).
Mechanic says "not me - i was working all up front".
Anyone help here?
thanks

I've wondered where the door open sensor is on my similar 2000 LS400 since the sensor was so obvious on the door jam of the 90 LS I drove for many years. My assumption is that the door open sensor on your 98 LS and my 00 LS is built into each door and is part of the door latch system.
It would certainly be weird if both the radio and the door open sensor were both working properly before you took your car in. Never underestimate what an incompetent mechanic can screw up -- I've seen it all in my 40+ years of car ownership.

Of course am 50% sure that its related to Drive Belts,
Tensioners replacement which are parts of body electrical system. Which may caused radio fuse & driver door fuse to blow. So i suggest taking the car back to that Mechanic to get this fixed since he is responsible about this issue, BTW don't pay any more cash to him
These troubleshooting are taken from repair manual for LS400 2000 Model.
---->>since radio are not also working then i highly recommend inpecting the following in first
1. Ignition Switch
2. RADIO NO.2 Fuse (Instrument Panel J/B)
3. GAUGE Fuse (Instrument Panel J/B)
4. Body ECU
5. Wire Harness
----
also as a second step
Inspect the following:-
1-Door Courtesy Switch
2-Door ECU
3-Multiplex Communication Circuit
4. Body ECU
5. Wire Harness
6.Door Unlock Detection Switch
try searching in google for a repair manual , maybe you will find one for free in torrent or something.
i have the repair manual for LS400 1998 - 2000 , i dont know if it can help with 1997 !

Did you ever find the fix for this? I have the same problem, same year and model. The door ajar indicator and floor lights won't go off even when the car is turned off, so I have to jump start it every time I use the car.

Those lights are controlled by the MPX Body Network Computer to extend the shut off time. It often fails when the bulb terminals are short-circuited. I have seen young guys killed it trying to replace the bulb to an LED unit. You need to replace that computer to fix. Finding and replacing the failed semiconductor inside may fix it, but this needs some good skills to analyse the circuits.
