Default LSx Swap

Hello, Newbie (to site) here....I've been on the lurk here over the past few weeks and decided to sign up....Just testing the waters to see if anyone has swapped in an LS based V8 to their LS400. I will be starting one in the spring and would start replicating kits if the interest is great enough.....I have access to a full blown machine shop and own my own CNC, so the parts and kit will not be outrageously priced like I have seen on other swap kits.....The only question I have is if someone has an engine bay pic of an LS400 with the motor removed?....Any replies are greatly appreciated, I know some purists won't like what I will do to the car, but anything I design or build is not pure......thanks again......

ive been considering a ls2 swap in the ls but not enough funds to complete it. but in order to sell the kits, u need to be a vendor to even start discussing it.

Might want to check with SC perfomance forums, and lextreme.com - these guys are more into performance mods than LS400 guys. SC400 engine is the same as LS400 anyways.

Default Kit

If you don't know, the LM7 4.8 and 5.3l motors are LS based V8 blocks identical to the LS motors with 300hp stock. I bought a complete motor intake to oil pan, harness, accessories for $600 out of a 2003 Chevy with less than 40K on the clock. The LQ motors are the same and can pump out over 400 in stock form. I was going to stick it in my 944 but that engine has many miles left on it to molest it that way. I see that the Ls400 is front sump and rear steer which would require the GTO oil pan, easy enough....I have a set of LS430 calipers that I designed a bracket adapter to fit them to the 944 and can't believe the quality of manufacturing that went into these monoblocks. I will design an adapter to mate these to the LS400 as well to handle the extra horses and torque that will be on hand....

yea, at minimum it's an extremely involved swap.

custom motor mounts, ecu, alt/AC(if desired), custom fuel, heater, and coolant lines, (plus AC), custom trans, driveshaft, and rear end gearing, exhaust, possible mods to steering rack+exhaust manifold, and that's just getting started...

GL with it, keep us updated.

Default monster miata

I have seen one up close, looks like a car skin wrapped around a big motor. I have been in and driven an RX7 with an LS1.....mmmmm true vette killer....I was going to put this motor into a donor car last winter but wanted a 2 wheel rocket to ride for this past summer, so I built a ground up custom streetfighter.....burned my buddy in his 04 vette with just 87 gas, he wasn't very happy about that.....he said if I get bored with the LS400, he'd be first in line when I sell it......here's my latest creation,6 bikes in 1, might trade for an SC or GS

There's a miata with 1UZ swap as well, and there are plenty of other cars with 1UZ swaps, - older VW's, BMW's, Nissans, older Corollas, and even Supras. Search youtube and lextreme.com to see for yourself. Also, see lexls.com for general help with the car.

I would say an 6.0 LSx swap with a nice set of heads and an automatic would be a nice swap for the LS400.

LSxs have been going into BMW's for quite a while.

They are strong runners.
