Front Seats, Leather and padding ...
Hi all!
i searched the forums and read about the possibilities of replacing the leather and it seems that I will order from leatherseats.com (94 LS400). Should I go with the one color (sandstone) or two-tone?
Also, the driver seat feels, well..."springy" like an old sofa. Any idea what kind of foam/padding I should use to rebuild the "comfort" and where I can get it?
I promise--I did search the forums and read several posts about the interior but want your opinions also on the one color or two-tone version.
Thanks!
Steve

I think the two tone (beige and brown) look really good. I have seen first gens with the two tone - very nice. I guess it depends though on what color you have now. I have beige seats and will recover them with the darkest monotone brown I can get from the same vendor you are looking at. Every now and then there are group buys where you can save some bucks.
I hear you on the seat. All the suspension mods I have done on my LS my seat is springy - like a trampoline.
When you buy your seat covers they come with an installation tool and guide. You could experiment with dense foam under the covers - to see what works to reduce the spring effect.

The ones you have seen, are they darker on the outside (brown) and beige in the middle?
I will try some dense foam--any idea where I could get something like that? Thanks Steveski!

Keep us up to date on the seat thing, Aggieguy. I have a 93 with 130k miles and my driver's seat feels the same, way too springy. I feel like I am sitting right on the springs. I thought maybe it was because the previous owner(s) were fat or because I'm too heavy (220.) But I think it might just be worn out because that's how these cars are.

Ha ha on the fat guy scenario - the springy seat is way too annoying especially when it is lowered. The dense foam could probably be bought at like a Home Depot or maybe Hobby Lobby. I like the idea of memory foam stuck bewteen speings when the cover is off. The guys at leatherseats.com may have some better ideas though.
The seats were darker on the inside and beige on the outer. They looked good.

Aggieguy,
I had my Leatherseats.com interior done by a local Dallas/Garland
upholstery place & they also re-padded the seat during installation.
They charged $50.00 more than it would have cost at the Oklahoma Leatherseats facility and for $50.00 I will gladly avoid a day in OKC!
Really feels like brand new. I just went the sandstone route.

Yeah, I may go the sandstone route myself--not sure just yet. I may even do the install myself and add the foam between the springs as suggested. I will keep everyone posted.

Hey Steveski--
I went a little more pricey route and ordered some padding from perfectfit.com and am waiting for that to get here--along with my leatherseats.com purchase. Gonna do it all at once. I will keep you posted--I probably will do it this next weekend (23-24 ish).

Exactly..I had a local upholstery shop repair both front seats on a 90 LS400 (bottoms only) 100 bucks a piece...i believe they installed some sort of board (not sure of the material) and thicker foam and it was a vast improvement..The previous owner of the vehicle from 1990-2003 was a good friend who weighed 140 lbs soaking wet Lexus most definately skimped on the foam in the 1st gen

Damon - would you please share some pictures of your new leather seats? I'm thinking of upgrading my seats as well. Thanks !
