Default 96 LS for 5 grand a good buy?

It is a two owner car with 140K miles. The T belt was done early at 114K miles. I have yet to go out and see it but I want to know about problem areas. These cars are capable of reaching over 400K miles without having the engine opened up for internal repairs but what is small stuff that breaks and gets real expensive fast?

Is oil burning a problem after 100K miles?

Once in a while I will see a 1st gen LS throw blue smoke when the engine is under heavy load.

Also, how is real world gas mileage?

The seller says about 21-23 on averge but 25 mpg if you drive it like a grandpa.

Hey man, I just bought a 96 LS myself and I am quickly learning if you dont have service records or know service has NOT been done, these cars can $1000 you to death. Examples like a new A/C system, suspension rebuilds, speedo cluster, timing belts, etc.. I paid $7k for a 150k mile car but it was in excellent condition. But I have replaced the a/c and ball joints, plus small tune up items. Just look the car over really good for wear and tear or abuse. When you drive it, go over some good bumps and see if the front end makes noise. If it looks good and checks out ok, its a good deal. If you keep a maintainence on these cars, problems shouldnt follow. No oil problems I know of. I do preventive maintainence on any high mile car I buy if I dont know whats been replaced on it. Just piece of mind. Seems to be the normal range for mpg what you put there.

320k miles on mine, no blue smoke at all, engine hauls butt, gets 26mpg on the highway (at normal speeds), and cost me $3500. Currently has an EFI fuel pump circuit issue but I'm working on that.
