Default Any idea when to replace timing belt '00

My 2000 LS400 has almost 100,000 miles on it. Any idea on when to replace the timing belt? Thanks.

do it yourself. i just did a timingbelt and waterpump (tensioners, pulleys, caps, rotors etc) myself. very easy with pretty basic tools. good writeups are available. took a total of 6(ish) man hours - my first time ever touching a v8

Pop the cam cover off and look at the belt to see its condition .

What Titus says above is correct change everything at 100,000 miles fan belts water pump both distributor caps and rotors lower crank seal timming belt and all tensioners both the timing belt and the outside fanbelt one also.
Here is a tidbit the lexus ls400 engine is the only automobile engine that can come out of the krate and be put into an aeroplane and be certified to fly in the plane no other engine can say that.

Toyota Corp planned to produce commercial planes and use the LS400 engine directly in the newly developed plane. But the car engine was too heavy to put on a small plane. They later contract others (I believe it was GE) to produce a plane engine for their use.

you've said this before and its simply not true.

people have been shoving blown GM LS1 motors and even some subaru EJ20 boxers into planes for years.

Visually check your belt.
How hard would you say you drive the vehicle?
If you have VVTI (You Do!) do not pass 120,000 miles or a belt brake will be very costly indeed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not know FAA rules backwards & forwards but I can pretty much promise that anything using a car engine would be FAA classified as an Experimental & therefore not certified.

Someone in South Africa has a kit plane using an UZ-FE powerplant. It made it to Oshkosh this year so it is has come "across the pond".

Many kit planes use Chevy V-8's, like the LS-1 as noted.

Falconer produces a V-12 for aircraft use that is very similar to their auto V-12.

Orenda scrapped plans for their V-8 water cooled aircraftt engines.

Porsche just plain lost their *** & patience with the limited production Porsche powered aircraft they made with Mooney & chose to buy back & ground the fleet. I think they were actually FAA certified.

Some of the new aero-diesels are based on Mercedes car engines.
