I just bought a 97 LS 4 and haven't even bought my first tank of gas. Is it necessary to use Premium 92/93 or is the medium grade ok 89?

Hello ~
Some people think that using the high test (92/93) is not needed , however I feel as if the high test is the best for the LS400 due to the fact that it is a high output V8 (better grade = less pinging.
Enjoy your new baby !

Besides Diesel every gas-station over here has:
Normal gas 91 oct
Super 95 oct
Super+ 98 oct
One company is providing Super+ with 99 oct.
I should export it!!!!

Most people consider Premimum Octane fuel expensive when compared to Midrage 89~ or Lowrange 87~. Of course octane differs from vendor to vendor and region of the country. My take is in agreement to use what the manufacturer recommends. Secondly about the difference in price. The difference in price between Midrage and Premimum can vary, but is usually between 5 cents and 10 cents per gallon. On a 23 gallon tank fillup, your talking about an extra 2 dollars 30.....Does anyone smoke cigarettes? I quit, but I know a tank of gas typically lasts longer than a pack of smokes.
If your car gets 20 miles to the gallon, 23 gallons is 460 miles. $2.30 divided by 460 miles is .5 cents per mile. It cost you an extra copper Lincoln to go 2 miles with Premimum fuel.
I recommend Premimum fuel for performance...and better gas mileage. Also, if anyone had one of those bargain buyout stores or something like a Family Dollar store in your area, stop by and look in the automotive section. You can usually find the STP/Wynns/Gumout Gas Treatments for a buck or less. Let your car also drink one of these every fillup or 2.

Your gas is still a lot cheaper than ours.
normal 0.89 Euro for a liter
super 0.95 Euro for a liter
super+ 1.01 Euro for a liter
1 Euro is almost 1 $
1 gallon is 3.785 liter

I use Exxon 93 octane and my ES remaps the ECU for optimal torque and power! I was driving down my local highway 121 and was going about 60 and then i punched it and I lost the front end due to the tires just spinning:eek:
