Looking into a 91 LS400...
What's up, Im looking into buying a 91 LS400. Miles are about 90K Interior and paint is mint.
Is there anything that I should look for? Common problems?
Not looking to really do any engine modifications but interested in appearance. Would 20's fit? Any lowering kits? Body kits? Thanks!

Thank You!
I really like the setup of this forum.
I would really love to put 20's on it. The smallest width they come in are 8.5" Now would you happen to know what offset would fit?
Also does this year (91) have the air suspension? If it does is there any safe way to lower it without messing up the ride? If I cant go with 20's I will just lower it and go with a smaller rim size.
Thanks for all the help!

I"m looking at a similar LS. It's a '94 w/ about 65k. These cars are really neat and I hope to find a good one that will be fun.
Wheels are about the only mod I plan. Some 17's will work.

You can fit 20s withought any fender mods. All you need is the right offset. I bet LS fenders can fit even bigger rims. I like the look of 19's better though.

Air Suspension
Be careful of the air suspension - especially on a car with 90K miles. We had a 93 and at 115K the front air suspension needed to be replaced. The replacement cost was $2,500. The rear units are less expensive - only $1,600! So you may want to stay away from and air suspension car, or at least factor it into the purchase price. Also, at 90K miles you are going to be looking at a major service, possibly including a replacement of the serpentine belt. Be prepared to spend about $1,000 for this service.

BkInBlk is right about the air suspension. Here's what else you should look for (in my experience):
climate display backlighting problems
idle-up valve (off of power steering unit) leaking ps fluid
ball joint/upper control arm play in front
warped rotors in front
I see these things come up often as issues for early LS's. I've got a 90 LS and have seen all of them at one time or another. The idleup valve leak can be very expensive to fix if it ends up blowing your alternator (search forums for more info.)
Also, I would definitely take care of the timing belt if it hasn't already been done. I believe full fluid replacement and valve adjustment should have been done at 75k, if not, you will want to do that as well.
