Hey guys,

Today I went to the mechanic shop, took my battery out and gave it to the mechanic to get a voltage reading. When he returned it to me to put back in the car, I mistakenly put the negative wire on the positive battery probe and the positive wire to the negative battery probe. I get in the car and nothing works. So I get out and pop up the hood and realize the stupid mistake. I fix the problem, get back and start. The engine turns on just fine; however, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else works (that's the lights, the radio, windows/locks and anything electric related). I can't even shift the lever from park into anything. Anyways, so I used the override shift lever button to put the car into Drive and had my a friend come and escort me back to my house (because rear break lights of course didn't work and I didn't want to get rear-ended... by the way, no power steering either).

So what's the problem? Please help.

OH man that sucks. Did you check your fuse box? You probably blew some kind of fuse/relay.

In all honesty you most likely blew the main fuse which controls most of the electrical in the car. This has been discussed here before. Use the advanced search feature and just drop in your key words, something should come up. Let me get you started.

Does anybody know or heard any serious problems as a result of this? Like maybe frying the computer or any other electrical instruments? I'm really hoping it's just a simple fuse replacement...

Simple fuse.... just do it ASAP, or your battery will die very soon.

Haha, I JUST did this! You're going to have to replace a fuse relay. Pop the trunk and open the fuse box. It's a PAIN in the *** to get to. Here's the thread in which a member helped me out.

There's a picture in there along with the fuse name I believe. Now, the fuse is bolted in so you won't be able to pull it out when you take the fuse cover off. There are hinges that WILL break if you force them too much so don't be too hard on it. Where the green bracket is on the picture, that's one of the flaps you need to lift. It lifts from the bottom. Now, the other one on the left is a *****, but if you're careful you can do it. I bought the part from the Lexus dealership since Kragen and Autozone didn't have it. They didn't have it in stock so you might wanna call ahead so they can order it. It only costs like $20 I think. Also, it would be a good idea to check all the other fuses too.

$20 (ish) for the part. And about 10 minutes labor. Good luck!
