Default 98 LS400 Navigation Obsolete!

Just found out that Lexus will no longer support the Nav. system on my car.
Does anyone know of an aftermarket hard drive being supplied.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

The 2005 nav harddrive update for the 98-00 LS400 is available from http://www.lexus-parts.com/parts_detail.asp?id=88792

Lexus has been coming out with an update about every two years but I wonder if the 2005 one will be the last.

Whats wrong with the nav, the unit ,or just that the data needs updating?

Well, you can buy the update of the software at Sewell
or some other dealer and then sell the car ,
and buy a Platinum Ed. SF (no nav) and buy a map!!!
That'll solve the nav issue for good!!

i called a dealer and they said it IS the last update.

do you guys think it's worth getting this update?? will there be a lot more information as far as streets, or is it more of an update for the "points of interest"?

my car was never updated...it has the original navi from 98...

they gave me a price of around $280 for the new hard drive.....

Well it is supposed to get rid of alot of POIs and add more streets. POI such as ATMS...i dont think ive once used my POI button. Hopefully this new update will add my city.

I should be getting one soon, so when i install it, i'll let you know how it is.

Or, buy a cheap tomtom or Garmin navigation unit.

I noticed in the 2 volume repair manual set for my 2000 LS400 (it has Nakamichi), that it looks like the same amplifier is used for both the navigation audio system and the standard audio system - or at least the connector pin configuration on the amps look identical. The Nakamichi amp is very different.

Would it be "plug and play" to substitute the standard audio system/HVAC in the center stack for the navigation/HVAC module?

Or, it you used a standard HVAC module, could you install an aftermarket in-dash nav / audio system? This recent post shows what is possible: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=324707

Even the most inexpensive aftermarket nav systems announce street names, have millions of POIs and many can be updated via the Internet.

In-dash navs do look nice though if you are willing to spend the big bucks.

Here is my cheepo aftermarket nav "semi-permanently" installed on a bracket -- it cost less than the update for the 98-00 LS400 OEM nav. I'll probably replace it with a better but still sub-$300 Garmin nav sometime in the next year or two since the Magellan company seems to be imploding.
