Default 1999 LS400 navigation System says check hard disk.where is the disc located and what

1999 Lexus LS400 navigation system reads check hard disk. the unit I know is in the trunk which I removed. is there supposed to be a card ,disk or something in that unit,or is it set up to be programmed by the dealer

If what you say is true then given the error message I would imagine it's a hard-disk...

The disk probably died from the age and vibration. Dealership parts are upwards of $1000 for the main nav computer on those cars. Better off looking on ebay or similar for a 98-00 nav ecu. All to get 20 year old tech nav with ~12 year old maps.

I believe removing the hard disk as he said he did renders the entire Nav/climate/radio unit inoperable. You just are left with that hard disk error on the display.
