Default Need to replace struts....what else should I consider

I have determined I need to replace my struts on my 00 ls (73,000). I can feel every bump and just about any bump grabs the wheel, etc. Plus, when I push on the front, it definitely has alot of play. I am led to believe I have a bad strut or two...that said, what else could cause alot of feel in the steering wheel? It just seems to absorb shock poorly and the wheel picks up every bump, etc.

While I replace the struts, what else might you recommend I replace as a preventive move.

My car is stock 100% and I want to keep it that way with all OEM where possible....

I also noticed a creaking (rocking chair) type noise as well when I drive slow as well as press the hood, it is apparent. I sense this is a dried bushing of sorts.

Recommendations and advice would be most appreciated.

It would be a good idea to replace the struts, top strut mount and possibly the lower ball joints if the car is pulling to one side, at the very least. There is also a strut bar cushion that routinely needs to be replaced, however this part is not cheap. That should hold you for the time being. If you want to go all out, have the front end bushings replaced as well (upper & lower control arms, tie rod, etc.)

check sway bar bushings too, spray them with a bit of WD-40 and see if that helps quiet them down until u change them.

Default Sounds like strut rods to me...

I had similar problem with mine. It doesn't seem likely that your struts should be gone at 73K...mine are still fine at 106K.
However, worn out strut rod bushings seems to be a common problem reported by owners, me included.
I bought new ones for $97 each and installed them earlier this week.
It make a noticable difference in how the car sounded and felt, particularly over rough raods surfaces.
Have someone take a look at yours...it's a much cheaper repair than new struts...particularly if you are a DIY'r

Default Thanks again for the direction

Great, thanks a ton. Will do and I figured I definitely have some bushing problems. I still think my struts are worn.....when I push on the hood, the car definitely has alot of bounce, etc....seems like too much, but I will do the bushings first.

Default IF you decide to do the strut rods...

...consider ordering the complete strut rod offered by lexuspartsonline.com.
You will find OEM bushings at various on-line sources for about $80 ea. The complete assembly goes for $97. My opinion is that swapping the bar out is easier than removing the orig bars and beating in new bushings. Unless you have an arbor press (I don't), I think it would be a rough job. Also, if you are considering having a mechanic do it, his cost to "battle the bushings" may be higher than a rod swap. My $.02...
