code 71? 91 ls400 malfunctioning egr system?
I had the same code on my 1991 LS400. The part that I replaced was the EGR modulator. The part cost me $100 at the local lexus dealer, and took me 10 minutes to install. I have heard that you can clean them. I tried to clean mine, but I still got a check engine light. The light only went away when I replace the EGR modulator.

Hello
What happened is the plug that plugs onto the electronic piece (vsv?) at the end of the egr system came slightly off again. I ran a little thin wire around it to keep it secure and its good as new. The fastening clip that you depress to release the connecter has no more strength in it and it will click when I fasten it but then unclicks itself after driving around. I do believe I need another filter in the egr vacuum modulator because I cleaned it and reinstalled and now the car bucks at 45mph again. I remove the filter in there and it runs fine. Amazing how such a little filter can cause so much trouble. Thanks again
