In the UK, the Gen 1 and beyond were electronically limited to 155mph (250kmh). I suspect that the Gen 1 would reach perhaps 165mph(266kmh) if anyone ever managed to derestrict one. Not quite sure about 171mph though?
I have driven mine all the way to 155 before and it's got great high speed stability. The Gen 1 acceleration is rather ok up to around 80-90, but beyond that the car's great aerodynamics come into play and it swings round the speedo with such ease. At top speed, you feel the need for a button on the dash which is marked "wings", since you are travelling at take off speed of a small airplane!!!
I hear you dude. I just never heard of that before.
At the end of the day, the LS400's aerodynamics were so ahead of their time, that it's entirely possible.
Even now in 2004, car manufacturers try to amaze you by saying they have reduced their latest midsize model's drag coefficient to 0.31 etc, when the original LS400 was 0.29 in 1989!!!
I don't know how accurate the speedo is but I don't believe that this speed was in real faster than 260, because the GS430 is claimed 259 by TTE which was tested by the german TÜV. The GS has the same drag 0.29 and more HP! The real speed from the pic I took is probably around 255. A GPS would be helpfu
Well if yoo remember I hit 153mph in August of last year. The car was not slowing down at all. i was expecting a fuel cut off at 149 as the Lexus Owners manual says but I never hit it. I have hit the fuel cut of in many many cars including my RX. Now was the wind pushing from behind, was the spedometor wrong, who knows? It was just a total blast seeing the needle go that far to the right.
Now the speeding ticket that follow was extreamly painful.
I have a ls 400 2000 platinum edition I went 135 on highway & it wasn't in sport mode & I could tell it could have easily went much faster I didn't hit the brakes & let it coast back down to 70 on its own it took like 30 seconds to get back down to the speed limit amazing car very smooth at 135 handle the road very well thank God I didn't pass the police going that fast🙏
Lol, moderators? Any chance you could archive / read-only threads that are more than 2 or 3 years old?
I know it happens from time to time on all forums, but dude above just created a new account to reply to a 17 year old thread.... and the same thing has happened at year 3 and year 7 if you look back through the thread. Come on.
Not to pick on OP here, but this new-member-bumping-archaic-thread seems to happen a few times a week around here. Messy.
At 100 MPH started to feel a vibration so backed off.I like the power I can use in real life, this car sure has it.Freeway merging, freeway passing, cruising, this car SHINES!

especially about a topic which has already had a known answer for a very long time lol
1LS: reaches just about 150 mph non-governed
2LS: reaches just about 160 mph also non-governed
2.5LS governed at ≈ 150 mph (149 according to manual)
Personally, I do not mind "archaic thread bumping" it often, for me anyways, freshens up an interesting old-stale subject with updated thought story or viewpoint.
my dads LS is bone stock and was never limited. You don't believe the pic? What can I do to convince you?
Chris
Its OK Christian,I got 24 mpg in my friends dodge 1995 Cummins pickup on freeway and state roads trip.I was called a liar too,but it was run using a GPS.Some vehicles are just flukes.

that's new data to me ! it's all limited to road conditions and the aerodynamics of the car.
of course it also depends on how brave you are...120mph on public roads is never wise (at least stateside).
though I've been guilty of taking the old LS to 135mph on a crowded socal freeway chasing a Camaro SS...me on 19" wheels = could have been a disaster!
There are other high speed threads sprinkled over the years too. The moderator team will evaluate threads on their content and age has not been a criteria for a general lock. We appreciate when new members make the effort to read older existing threads and contribute. We also appreciate members alerting us to threads that may need moderator intervention that promotes a good Club Lexus community.
