I noticed this thread some time back and wanted to add my experience. Yes, you can take the fog lamp housing apart and remove the amber glass lens.....you must cut the light diffuser to remove the amber lens. If done with care....you can then reattach the light diffuser. IMHO the light diffuser must be on there so the light pattern is correct for a fog lamp. If you leave the diffuser out....your fog lamp will act more like a headlight and blind people.....ask me how I know.
As for light bulbs....I have Piaa Superwhites in the lamp and fog assembly on both my LS400's but had to make a small sub-harness to make the H3 work in the H3c fogs. It works but I would much rather have the H3C's.
My question, where is a supplier that stocks the Koito Hyperwhites in H3C?
I do have ordered my Koito H3C White Beam from www.optauto.com Its pretty pricy. I ordered about 3 weeks ago and called yesterday. The Koito is in back order. I will need to wait for about 2 more weeks.
As far as the yellow lense, i will break it. The bulb housing must reinstall at the exact position otherwise the beam will be different and incoming traffic (cops too) will not be very happy.
www.optauto.com is located in Azusa California (about 8 miles from my house) if you can not see it with in their website. Do a search with yahoo and type KOITO WHITE BEAM. You should see optauto about 3-4 list down.
Hey David can you do me a favor. When your H3C arrives, can you try it with the yellow sleeve on one side with the Koito and the other still stock and then turn the foglights on and then could you tell me if the side with the Koito upgrade turns into a really bright yellow instead of the dull yellow of the stock bulb.
