My lexus is gone!! - Accident
Hey Friends,
I guess the time has finally come!! On wednesday, I got hit pretty badly from behind and it ain't lookig good. My insurance company say it's a total loss and so they won't be fixing it. Instead, they will give me the amount of money they think my car is worth...we know that it will be "some cents" Can you believe that? I would love to keep the car because it's the best maintained Lexus ever but I don't have the money.
This car was the best thing going on for me. I've put money and care on "Lexy-tha-sexy-lexus" and now it's all over. I bought this car when I was 18 and now being 21, with tuition and other bills, I don't think I can afford another LS 400....i don't know anymore.
Anyway, here's some pics to show the damage. Thanks for all your support in answering my numerous questions.

I feel your pain man. I just recently wrecked my LS. I bought mine when I was 18 too and it was my very first car. I'm sure not gonna miss the money pit the car was but I am gonna miss the looks and comments I got (especially from the ladies ).
Good luck findin' a new ride. Hope you do better than me (I'm stuck w/ an ugly sentra ).

OOHHHHHHH!!!!! I hate to see your car in that condition, especially a fellow earlier model LS. Really sorry that happened to you. I know you said you are in a financial position right now, if you can afford to do so see how much the insurance company will sell the car to you after they pay you for it. Worse comes to worse, you can part it out and possible be able to make a little profit to put down towards another Lex. Just make a decision based on your pockets and not your heart. Again,, really sorry to see that.

What the hell? How in the world is that totaled? Thats not a bad hit at all to fix. I guarantee you some used car dealer will pick it up from insurance auction and it will be on the road before you know it. Look around in a copuple months you may see some guy driving your ride next to you on the freeway. I don't know why your insurance company is totaling it aside from the idea that the value on these cars must be very very low for it to be a total because its definitely fixable.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Looks like someone else is at fault and their insurance should be fixing it. Hard to tell from pics but doesn't look totalled. I'd say between 3-5k to repair. Much cheaper if you get used parts from a junkyard.
Isn't an LS worth more than 5k? Try to make a deal with the adjuster. Suggest he re-examine the repair cost substituting used parts. Never know what you'll get until you try.

Nope Totaled. you are looking at about 8-10k to fix that plus being in Canada makes it worse. ICBC insurance is hard to get along with. My 93 got hit, a bumper 1 fender and a hood was 8k lots of little parts that bend that costs tons of cash, plus it would never be right again no matter how hard you tried to pull it out. Sorry for youre loss look around you can find very good deals around

Oh man! Sorry for your loss! I could never part out my own car. It would make me too sad. If you do plan to part it out let me know! i need a couple things. Sorry if that sounds insensitive. Good luck. LS's are around. You can find a replacement.

thanks everyone for your support and advice. I am supposed to hear from my insurance company - ICBC - on tuesday and I'll know exactly what is happening. I probably won't be able to purchase a lexus until I finish university...3 - 4 more years. Got years to save up for one. So easy on the horns when you see me with my toyota tercel!! I'll definately show you all pics of my new lexus in ***0...maybe you'll just catch me and lexy @ the ***0 olympics. Peace and thanks y'all. Much appreciated

Ouch...sorry to hear.
Rough guess, that looks about a $3K hit easily.
I had a similar value hit relative to the ACV of the car. I was able to negotiate with the repair shop and insurance co about repairing instead of a total. (I really liked the car.) The repair shop took some sympathy by nudging the estimate a bit lower so the decision was a bit easier for the claims inspector. Not by much...it was splittng hairs by $200.
YMMV but if you like the car, talk with them and see what the repair estimate comes in relative to the value. I wonder if you offer to pay a specified amount so the claim is lower if they will let it pass?
