Default clunking noise when breaking

Not sure if this is a re-post, When I apply the breaks it makes this one time "clunk noise", and when I release and break again the sound repeats, then I release and break again. I can do this about 3-4 times applying the break and let go, apply again, etc, from there it goes away. it only happens when I will be drivin' for a few minutes and needing to break....I only hear this in the front driver side....anybody have any suggestions? I had Daizen bushings put in about 2 years ago, and had JIC SF-1s' then I sold those and put back my stock ones for now. Till I receive my JIC FLT-A2s'. Therefore could it be the bushing wore out on the bottom stock suspension/strut? Or is it something else?

I too have the same problem. Help us CL experts!

I have cali custom 2" lowering springs with Tokico shocks. Bushings were replaced with OEM Lexus bushings a while back. It feels like it's coming from the brakes.

Sounds like the infamous caster/strut bar bushing. Could be an upper or lower ball joint, tie rod, upper or lower control arm bushing. If none of these has been replaced start first at the strut bar bushing. Mine were going south at 60K miles. Some do better than others but IMO many of these rubber parts are going to have wear or age issues by 100K.

Strut/caster bar replacemnts are about $120 each and labor per side is going to be about 35 minutes. You'll need an alignment afterwards so add in another $75.

About the only things I have left to do on mine are the lower control arm bushings and replace the upper control arm including the upper ball joint which comes with the arm. Then I'll have done the whole front.

I think GrandLS4 has done his whole front end.

For the record, it's "brake". I've seen this many times, and its beginning to annoy me.

My 1994 has started doing this. More loud on pax side. Doesn't yet have 60K miles, so these bushings basically age quicker by age than by usage.

Ooops!,,,,you are correct!......for you to be annoyed, you must be a great "En-Grish" teacher, who is also a great "En-Grish Spoker!"... .......besides all that, I will look into the ball joints, along with the sway bar bushings and strut bushings. As for the control arms, there is Daizen bushings installed, so i know for sure it's not that!.... Thanks for the info boys!

It may not apply to your car but my 2nd gen was doing the same thing and it turned out the caliper bolts were loose. It may not be the problem but it takes a few minutes to check.......?
