Default Inside headlight dirty??? 2000 LS 400

Help! I have noticed one of my headlights has a significant amount of dust and/or what appears to be fingerprints....(must have been that way when I bought it)

How in the ____ do I take apart a light and clean inside? Are they meant to come apart?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks much

This is for a '90-'94 LS, but it's basically the same idea for yours:

I question whether this process would work for a 98-00 LS. The gen 1 LS400 has a thick glass headlight lens which controls the beam pattern. The 98-00 headlight has a very thin plastic lens which has nothing to do with the beam pattern.

the theory is the same of heating the unit so the glue melts and u can pry the halves apart. the SC guys do this all the time for retros, as do the GS guys.

Default Thanks

Thanks PureDrfiter for the insight. Sounds like a hassle, but fairly easy.

SC guy here that can attest to the fact that the oven method does indeed work with no ill effects. It's a slow, methodical process. But not necessarily hard.

Make sure the dirt is on the inside. The dirt/stains might be on the outside. Rub some polishing compund on a small part on the outside and se if that fixes the problem.
