door handle
I have been looking for a driver-side door handle for my 1994 LS 400 and the best price I could find was $130. Is there a toyota handle that fits or something other than Lexus parts that fits? Is this a part I could install with minimal car exerience? Thank You

Well, technically, the handle is a Toyota part. You can try l-tunedparts.com, lexus-parts.com, or send a private message to member Aliga and ask if he can get you one. They're all CL approved vendors, and I'm sure one of them (if not all) can get you a good deal.
As for DIY installation, you might be able to, but it'll be somewhat time consuming because you're basically going to have to take the whole door apart starting with the interior.

Thanks for the help brian. The web sites didn't have one for the 94 but I found one for a 95 that is half the price. The body styles on the first and second generation LS is very close. Will this door handle fit my 94?

If I remember correctly, our gen 1 LS400 had a lighted LED ring around the key hole - it lit up when the handle was lifted. (Our 00 LS doesn't have this.) That might be one reason the driver's side handle costs more. And doesn't the gen 1 driver's door key lock have a few functions that are not available at the front passenger door? It has been a long time so I may have forgotten.
All four door handles on my gen 1 LS were replaced for free even though the basic warrenty had expired. I was surprised - they just replaced them with no haggling. One had broken and most of the others were squeaking loudly. Apparently there was a significant design flaw.
The body styles and relative demensions on the gen 1 (90-94) and gen 2 (95-00) are very, very different. We had both parked side by side in our garage until we sold the 90. I spent hours with a tape measure marvelling at how Toyota had changed almost everything but (kinda) made the cars look similar.

Judging by the above U.K. thread, it must be common for the driver's door keyhole light to fail. Mine, however, was still working after 13 1/2 years.
The driver door keyhole light was the same greenish color as the ignition switch light. By the way, keyless entry was an option when I bought my LS in early 1990.
Although my 90 LS was a U.S. model it was unusual in that it had a cloth interior, an OEM manually retractable rear window shade, and an unusually low ride height on its standard steel springs. My next door neighbor bought his LS400 the first week they went on sale in 1989 - his LS had leather and more options (his had steel springs too) but his looked like a giant standing so much taller than mine.

Let me know if anyone still needs the outside drivers door handle. I have a used one (black) in great shape, with no cracks and all electrical connectors intact. I bought this as a replacement for my 1990 LS 400, but I ended up selling the car before I changed it. BTW, I believe this a common problem because I had to change it on my 1991 LS 400 also.
