Default LS400 Tilt Steering Memory Problem

I have a '96 LS400 and when I put the key in the ignition, the steering wheel frequently does not return to the saved position. I can push the memory button on the door and it will eventually find the correct position, but only after several trys. Is there an easy fix to this or does this indicate that the motors, etc. need to be replaced? Thanks for your help and Happy New Year!

If it's not a regular occurrence, it may most likely be that the motors are about to go out on you.

The problem happens about 99 out of 100 times. The control **** moves the wheel in, out and up and down and there does not seem to be any lag in the movement of the wheel--just the inability to go back to the initial memory setting without repeated memory button pushes!

99 out of 100.

Better leave it that way. Not worth time and money to fix it.
