im planning on getting a custom exhaust made in the next couple months or so. what do you all reco' i should use for the muffler? Mike's Exhaust is telling me Magnaflow and some other places are telling me flowmaster and yet others are giving me like random brands. i plan on using 2.25in. tubing with a true x-pipe. id prefer a muffler with a tip on it but its not required.
Tell them how much exhaust note and what characteristics you want to hear and they will size it appropriately. Some of the big V-8's with 3" pipes can be pretty tame with a huge muffler so it all depends what size you go with.
Where is Mike's? It sounds familiar but I can't place it at the moment.
Mike's Muffler in El Monte, i got hold of the place thru some posts in the SoCal section some months ago.
im pretty set on the tube size since after some researching of JBrady's posts it seems to be the best compromise between backpressure, volume, and velocity.
Mike was quoting me a top of $450 with the 2.25in., magnaflows, manufactured' X-Pipe, and dual walled chrome tips. pls note i havent actually taken the car to him so this is a ballpark figure, supposedly higher.
also, should i go with straight tips or turndowns?
how about getting two mufflers from borla and making your custom pipes with a x-pipe in the middle.....i think imma eliminate the cats...is there a way to avoid getting check engine light!!
jsut to be clear im doing a full CUSTOM exhaust, so im only looking for mufflers. ie borla, magnaflow, flowmaster, jic, etc. NOT a ready-made piece.
also, im trying to decide between either Straight pipes with Chrome tips, OR blackened turndowns.
Yeah I know what your planning on doing. JIC's are just two canisters if thats what you want you can take any similar muffler and it would be almost the same as mine.
Yup cat back from JIC. It bolts to the cat and splits to a "Y" then the two cans. My car is a 92 btw. I doubt it will make a difference what yr you got. They all got the 1UZ
